Flash game adventure course now to be done in AS 3.0

We've taken a new turn with creating the new flash adventure game video course.

The course will now teach people how to make the game "Cavern Escape" using ActionScript 3.0 as the language.

This means people will need a tool capable of using AS 3.0 such as Adobe Flash CS3 Professional.

The main reasons for this change are:
-ActionScript 3.0 is actually easier to learn than 2.0 overall, and has more in common with other standard languages. This allows for people to learn it faster and be able to apply their knowledge to other languages.
-ActionScript 3.0 has much better performance than 2.0. This means your games and other applications will run much faster on average.
-ActionScript 3.0 is simply the latest language available to use in Flash, and would make adapting to new AS versions even easier.

Read this article for a nice comparison between the different versions:

Adventure flash game course progresses forward

We're making inroads in developing the adventure flash game course.

The adventure game you'll learn how to create is called "Cavern Escape"; the game involves using various objects and the surrounding environment in clever ways to escape a mysterious cave.

What you'll learn in this course can also be applied to other adventure games you may want to make yourself ;)

While the course is in development, share with others in the forums your experiences in designing flash games.

Talk about what you believe is the most important thing to remember about designing flash games and learning how to design them.

Flash game course update

I’d like to send out a big thank you to all who completed the flash survey. Your answers have helped shape the course into what you most want it to be ;)

Given the large variety of responses received, there may be more than one course produced to cater to the different types of flash game designers.

The current course will be about designing a first-person adventure game using either Flash CS3 or Flash 8. Actionscript 2.0 will be used due to its popularity.

The course will be available in both video and written transcript form. It will be available online along with the source code and other elements needed to make the game.

Keep an eye out for more news as the course is developed.

Here's an existing flash article to keep you busy while you wait:
